Many, if not all states, offer Medicaid programs for pregnant women and their children. This is an effort to provide health care for those without insurance, and ensure that women get the prenatal care they need, as well as followup care after birth.
At a time when many are uninsured, this is an important avenue to explore. In Michigan, there are four different programs which start with family planning, and continue through prenatal care and health and dental care for children up to age 18.
The premiums for the health and dental care are only $10 per month for a family. States have made it easy to apply for these programs by offering online enrollment. To find resources in your state, do a google search for Medicaid programs or contact your county health department.
