Homemade Facial Care

There are many facial treatments you can use to improve the appearance of your skin, and reduce dryness. You don’t need to spend money at a spa or buy expensive products to find something that works for you.

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Do it whenever you wash your face.

Steam treatments are good for opening up the pores on your face, and they’re easy to do at home. Boil some water, adding a selection of herbs like rosemary, mint or lavender. Let it cool slightly. Put a towel over your head, close your eyes and bend down over the steam. Hold your face there for several minutes. Then, rinse with cool water and apply moisturizer.

Facial exfoliation is useful for removing dead skin. For a simple scrub, you can mix ground-up oatmeal with a little olive oil or water, rub it onto your face and rinse to remove. Alternately, instead of the oatmeal, try white sugar or coffee grounds. Make sure to keep it away from your eyes. You can also use these on other parts of your body such as elbows, knees or heels.

Facial masks are another form of exfoliation. However, you leave the product on for 15 minutes or until it dries. The use of a beaten egg white as a mask has been used for years. You can also add a little plain yogurt to it. If you are allergic to eggs, don’t use this method.
