If you like croutons on your salad or in your soup, it’s pointless to spend money to buy them when they are so easy to make. Not only can you save money, but you can control the ingredients. Varying the seasonings will give you different flavors. If you crumble them in a blender, they can be used to coat fish or chicken, and the crumbles or cubes can be used to stuff your turkey next Thanksgiving.
Start with stale bread, remove the crust and cut into cubes. Put the cubes into a large bowl and drizzle with olive oil. If you have a favorite seasoning, sprinkle over the cubes and stir to coat. Sage is great for stuffing mix, or you can use rosemary, garlic powder or salt, Italian seasoning, Parmesan cheese or anything else that sounds good to you. Spread the cubes on a baking sheet and put into the oven at 325 degrees for about 15 minutes. Stir, and continue baking another 15 minutes or so until brown and crisp.
