Fair trade coffee is coffee that has been approved and labeled as such by one of several labeling organizations. In order to be labeled as “Fair Trade Coffee” the product must meet certain criteria designed to help producers in developing countries get better prices, better trading conditions, and promote sustainability.
The fair trade social movement also labels such other commodities as handicrafts, cocoa, sugar, tea, bananas, honey, cotton, wine, fruit, chocolate, flowers and gold.
