Landlord insurance covers your building, your outbuildings and your contents, and protects you in case of liability. In this respect landlord insurance is much the same as a homeowners insurance policy. In addition, a landlord policy can provide coverage for such things as damage to your property, damages you could be legally obligated to pay, legal counsel and fees, and up to 12 months of lost rental income. Some policies may also provide coverage to the tenant’s property as well. Of course, all policies are different, so be sure to read it.
