Kitchen Energy Savings

Here’s a few money saving ideas in the kitchen. On those hot summer days, or any other day for that matter, turn off your dishwasher’s drying cycle and allow the dishes to air dry. You may have to wipe them off a little with a dish towel, but you’d be surprised how little is needed. Not only is your house cooler, but you’ve saved energy.

Instead of running the cold water while washing fruits or vegetables, plug the drain and run water into the sink. Put the produce into the water and clean.

If you have a toaster oven, consider using it instead of your regular oven when cooking small meals. It uses less energy. In the summer, try to prepare meals that don’t require the oven. Use the microwave instead or eat cold meals.

When you return home from grocery shopping, separate out everything that needs to go into the refrigerator or freezer. Then, instead of opening and closing the door numerous times, put everything away at once.
