Almost everyone has a need for photo editing software at some point. There are very expensive ones available that have a steep learning curve. Most people, however, don’t require all of the bells and whistles that these have to offer. Fortunately, there are several free programs that may fill your needs.
Irfanview is simple to use and understand. You can do basic image editing such as cropping, cutting and resizing. You can also create images and thumbnails.
PhotoScape is a more recent addition to the mix and has features similar to Irfanview with some extras such as animation.
Gimp has many advanced features that you might find in software you have to pay for, but it’s easier to use. In addition to simple editing tasks, you can create masks and layers, so that it appeals to more advanced photographers.
FastStone Image Viewer is another basic image editing program that is sufficient for the amateur photographer.
