One more simple product that has evolved into numerous varieties is soap. It used to be there was just one kind of soap -bar soap. Then, manufacturers starting putting various additives in their soap to make it more appealing – scents, lotions, oatmeal etc. Soon after, liquid soap arrived. Now, we have antibacterial soap, making the choice of which to buy even more complicated.
People think that buying antibacterial soap will protect them better from germs. However, it turns out that it has some drawbacks. One is that in order for it to work, you have to scrub for two minutes, just as if you you were going into surgery. The second drawback is even more serious. If you use antibacterial products enough, you will eventually be washing away both healthy and unhealthy bacteria. That may cause you to be more susceptible to unhealthy bacteria, and less able to fight it off.
The moral of the story is: Save your money and skip the antibacterial products.
